Join
local Award Winning tour guide Mark Martin on a pleasant ramble in and
around the sandy shores of Smiths Lake.
Enjoy
a delicious breakfast lakeside with the birds. The birdwatching walk encompasses
a wildflower heathland, hidden green headland, rare littoral rainforest,
open forest, wetlands and a sandy bay.
An
astounding 202 species of birds have been recorded in and around these
diverse habitats.
The
walk is suitable for every type of walker of any age.

What
Bird is That?
In
the flowering heathlands, Mark will identify several types of honeyeaters.
On the seashore expect to see White Bellied Sea Egles, Gannets, and Whitsling
Kites. In the rainforest you will hear Whipbirds, Pardalotes and Thornbills
and may even catch sight of the magnificent Gold and Black Regent Bowerbird.
Parrots,
Lorikeets, Fairy Wrens and Firetail Finches will light the forest and as
you are never far from wetlands, lake and sea you'll see a magnificent
vairety of waterbirds. On the sandy bay you may be lucky enough to spot
the Gold And Purple Azure Kingfisher while Mark serves a delicious homemade
breakfast.

Bookings Essential
You'll
need closed-in walking shoes and don't forget the sunhat and water. There
will be plenty of photo opportunties so make sure you bring your camera.
Binoculars
are a good idea but not essential.

Where
to Meet
Driving
south we meet at Pacific Palms at the Sandbar turn-off which is situated
on the Lakesway a little over one kilometre south of the the Coomba Park
turnoff.
Look
for the Sandbar Golf Course sign.
Start
times vary according to season - say 7.30am as a guide.
Tour
commences with breakfast and is followed by a leisurely, easy paced walk.
Tour
duration 3 - 3.5 hours.
